New year, new space, new logo!

2/8/2014

La Tira was founded in 2011 by owner Christine Fong as an idea, when she was traveling Asia for a year after graduation. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in esthetics and specifically in waxing, she spent her year abroad dreaming of the future and brainstorming potential business names. She looked at the literal translations of a couple words in different languages, and decided on the name "La Tira": the literal translation of "The Strip" in Spanish. Over the next two years, "La Tira" was something Christine would come back to every now and again, adding to the brand slowly when inspiration struck.

In her first job out of beauty school, Christine met a designer who agreed to design a logo in exchange for waxing. The designer asked Christine to send over images that were inspiring to her, and spoke to the brand she wanted to create. Christine found an image of a beautifully drawn silhouette of a woman that had patterned flowers in her hair, and wanted to somehow weave "La Tira" into the hair of a silhouette and incorporate the colors she wanted to use: dark brown and turquoise. With these ideas in mind, the first logo was born.

When La Tira first opened as a pop-up in the beginning of 2013, Christine and her designer went back to the first logo and cleaned it up so it was simpler, and had the name Wax Studio spread across the bottom to distinguish the brand as a company focused solely on waxing. They also replaced the brown background color to gray.

In January 2014, the studio moved from its pop-up space into a large beautiful corner store front on Church and 25th in Noe Valley. It was the perfect space to grow and to bring on more estheticians and services. The studio brought on threading, facials, and a brow bar and continues to expand the studio service menu. With the new space, the studio wanted to re-brand and come up with a logo representing the company that was simpler, less feminine, more classic, and something that would stand out beautifully and distinctly in the many windows of the studio. Building off the cursive font of our first two logos, the studio's new designer created the unique logo you'll find on our windows today. It represents our brand perfectly: clean, classic, distinct, modern, and filled with aqua.
